Republic Thunderbolt P47-D

Finished 2023 January

Ōtaki model kit, from 1976

Scale: 1/48

Renamed this to Destination Unknown, as the paint job got a bit different due to mishaps during the process.

Very straight forward build, the only negative was that the figurine was warped and had a big hole in his belly...

Had a discussion with an air force entuast of the colour scheme on the top side of the P47-D, where it said olive drab in the blue print, but with included picture it is more steel blue. I had already at that point painted with the blue colour, so I kept it as is.

Painted with my own mix of blue colour. Looks really good!

Then the mishap... a wash was added to get into the gaps to get the shadows, but the wash cured with the colour beneath.

I couldn't get the wash off, and I was suggested to remove the paint and start all over... sorry, but I don't have that type of patience 😂

So change of plans: I took the opportunity to make a picture instead (göra en tavla till en tavla), where the underside became a sunset and on the topside I created a map based of the fields created by the wash mistake.

I am very happy with the outcome, and I got myself a new Art piece called Destination Unknown

Note: 2023 I applied to participate in an Art show called Vår Salong, and this plane together with the diorama A New Home were selected. From May 28 to June 18 is was in display at Kulturhotellet in Helsingborg, Sweden.
